I read a lot — like 200-plus books a year. Military action, space opera, apocalypse, who-dun-its, romance, fantasy and magic, westerns, naval adventures, everything but horror.
Like all readers, I've read some not-so-great books and figured if that stuff can get published, surely I can. And unlike a lot of readers, I actually wrote the novel.
The result was Star's Secret, a combination of three favorite genres — survival, romance, and science fiction — climaxing in epic battles. I thought it was great until I sent it to an editor. Ugh. Turns out I had a lot to learn about writing fiction. A couple of years of polishing and help from some talented editors, and it landed on Amazon.
Since then I've kept going: Crying in the Night, Diving Into Danger, and Untamed Country are all out now too, with more in the pipeline.
I'm an engineer by education, but the design side never appealed to me. My 40-year career has been managing construction projects. Like some of my protagonists, I'm just an ordinary guy who got involved in some extraordinary projects.
They still have to get through the scrutiny of my greatest supporter and harshest critic, my wife. She's a soft touch for stray animals, which is why our house runs on three small dogs, three cats, and a lot of chaos. One of the cats sits on my desk when I'm writing and occasionally walks across the keyboard — blame the typos on her.
